This charming ancient little town lies on a fertile plain, close to the Via Flaminia.
 
HALF DAY TOUR

Piazza S. Silvestro: the main square is surrounded by two Romanesque style  jewels: the Church of San Michele and that of San Silvestro,  both facing the 13th-century  Palazzo dei Consoli. A  stern Gothic palace, this former civic building today houses the lovely 19th- century  “Francesco Torti” theatre

The Paper Factory*: situated in the remains of the underground curved  Roman theatre*. It offers the opportunity to discover the ancient craft of making paper out of rags.The  old Roman structure of this important  town theatre as well as the reproduction of a Medieval house built above it.

 
IF YOU HAVE MORE TIME

Roman Bath: back in Roman times, people of “Mevania”  (today Bevagna) used to relax at the local spa. Part of this thermal bath is still visible as a black-and-white second century a.D. mosaic depicting marine creatures. One single ticket allows the visit of the Roman mosaic, the picture gallery and the theatre

The Church of Sant’Agostino: founded in 1316 together with the annexed monastery, it  shows some significant votive frescoes of Umbrian school

 
SPECIAL DAYS IN BEVAGNA

The “ Mercato delle Gaite” in June re-enacts the traditional crafts of the Middle Ages. Wandering through the four  old town districts, one can visit the above-mentioned Paper Factory, the Candles Workshop, the Silk Maker, and so on. The  artifacts shown during  production are then sold in the streets, thus creating a special atmosphere of old times. The taverns serving traditional home food are open throughout the  weeklong event
